HOUSING SUPPORT / 2026

Buy and improve a home in Kyoto City.
Housing & Renovation Subsidies

Buying an existing home as a family, insulating a cold house, strengthening an older wooden home, or renovating a Kyoto machiya: here are the main 2026 support programs to check when choosing a home in Kyoto.

Check the program first, then decide the order of purchase and construction.
Some subsidies require action before signing a renovation contract, placing an order, or starting work. Check eligibility while you are still considering the property, not after you buy it.
Program details were checked against official information as of September 24, 2026.

Kyoto City and national subsidies may not be combined for the same work and the same expense. In some cases they can be combined by separating work items or eligible costs, so ask the contractor exactly which program will be applied to which work.

Do not choose an existing home based on subsidies alone

Eligibility for a subsidy does not mean the home is a good purchase. For older detached homes in Kyoto, also check seismic safety, leaks, tilt, encroachments, rebuildability, road access, renovation history, and insulation performance.

Ask about buying + renovating an existing home → Eligibility depends on the property, work scope, and application timing. Confirm final eligibility with the office responsible for each program.
