RAISE A FAMILY IN KYOTO

Raise a family in Kyoto.

Do not choose a neighborhood based on schools alone. Population, supermarkets, hospitals, parks, childcare, stations, festivals, history, and housing-purchase or renovation support all help show what family life there will actually be like.

Starting with Kamigyo and Sakyo wards.

We bring Kyoto’s distinctive school-district culture and the realities of daily family life together on the same pages.

IMPORTANT

Recheck the school district once you have an exact address

Kyoto school attendance zones are defined by town name and lot number. When you find a property you are considering, confirm the address against official documents.

Kyoto’s idea of a “school district” can be a little complicated.

In Kyoto, today’s public-school attendance zones do not always match the historical “former school districts” still used for community activities. Our family guides therefore use current attendance zones for schools, the latest Kyoto City statistics for population, and appropriate community units for festivals and history.

Population figures are from the Basic Resident Register as of July 1, 2026, using Kyoto City’s latest published data by 2025 Census statistical area. These boundaries are not the same as school districts.
