1. Four areas to consider for living alone

1 Fukakusa / Ryukokudai-mae-fukakusa

First choice if you prioritize the shortest commute. Campus is comfortably walkable, and Keihan connects you to Fushimi, Higashiyama and Sanjo. When viewing apartments, check distance to rail lines and major roads as well as the shopping route.

2 Inari

For students who also want JR Nara Line access. You can keep Kyoto Station access while staying within walking range of campus. Because the area is near a major tourist destination, check pedestrian volume and atmosphere at different times of day.

3 Kuinabashi / Takeda

For students who prioritize the Karasuma subway line. Direct trains to Shijo, Karasuma-Oike and Kyoto Station make it easy to expand your range for part-time work and weekends.

4 Fujinomori

For students who want to widen their search along the Keihan line. Comparing Fujinomori with Fukakusa expands the property pool; also compare supermarkets and everyday convenience.

2. Confirm which faculties attend Fukakusa Campus

Ryukoku has multiple campuses, so location varies by faculty and year. The official Fukakusa guide lists it as the base for economics, business, law, policy, international studies, sociology, and first- and second-year literature and psychology students. Confirm your own faculty and year before signing a lease.

3. 1,276 new students per year come from outside Kinki

In official April 2026 entrant data, 3,992 of 5,268 new students are from Kinki and 1,276 from outside Kinki—about 24.2%. However, these figures coverall new Ryukoku University studentsby region, not just Fukakusa Campus. It also does not directly represent the number living alone.

4. What Ryukoku students should check when apartment hunting

  • Your campus:First confirm any campus changes by faculty or year.
  • Rail line:Your area choices change depending on whether Keihan, JR or subway is your daily axis.
  • Distance to tourist areas:Around Fushimi Inari, check foot traffic at different times in person.
